Welcome to Visionaries Pursuit, a podcast where we explore what it takes to turn your bold and inspiring ideas into reality. I'm Carolina Zuleta. I'm a life and a business coach and your host for this podcast. I'm thrilled to have you here. Hello, hello, and welcome to episode three of the Visionaries Pursuit podcast.
podcast. As always, I am so happy to be with all of you today. In the last couple of weeks, I've been talking about sales a lot with my clients. And I thought, you know what, this is the perfect topic for a podcast episode. So today I want us to dive deep into what it means to sell our vision. Just want to make a little disclaimer.
I'm going to be talking a lot about selling a vision when we're just starting. But if you're a little bit further ahead or you're already playing the big leagues, everything I'm sharing is incredibly valuable. Just change it to adapt to what your needs are, to where you are right now in your business or in your vision or your project.
So why as visionaries is so important that we become great salesmen. And the reason is because. To realize a vision, we need other people. We must learn to sell our vision to partners, investors, clients, our employees. A couple days ago, I saw this conversation with Richard Branson, where someone was asking him, Hey, you've built not only 1 billion business, but multiple.
What is the secret? To your success, to be able to do all of that. And he said, well, as the entrepreneur or as a visionary, your job is to create a crystal clear vision, then find the best people to execute it. And the third step is to give them all the resources and tools so they can. Do their magic. They can do the best work they can.
I was thinking about all of you and I was like, how do we hire the best in the industry? How do we get the best clients, the best investors, when we're just starting when no one knows our name? When you haven't maybe have a proven track record or a proven product even, it's the first time you're going to do something.
Like as Richard Branson says, we do need to create a crystal clear vision, but I would add that when we're starting, it has to be compelling. It has to be so compelling that people want to be part of it. Today, it's common for people to want to be part of Google or Apple. I bet there would even be people in the world who would be.
People who put money out of their pockets would pay to work with Spielberg or Oprah so they can learn from them. What happens when we're not Oprah yet or Spielberg, when our name is not known, when the potential what we see only lives within us and people don't know it yet? Well, we must sell it. We must understand how the people that will join us will benefit from being part of this vision.
We need to fall in love with our vision. We need to be our number one fan. We must believe that this vision is extraordinary and that it will happen and that energy will be contagious. It's common that when we first go out to the world to share a vision, to maybe hire the first employees or find investors for our dream, we're not feeling very confident.
We're probably having a lot of thoughts about ourselves. And I bet a lot of those thoughts are not very positive. We're probably thinking. Oh my god, will they believe in this? Am I the right person for this? Am I capable? I'm so small. Other people are further ahead. I don't have enough experience. Why would they do this for me?
I'm so small and they're so big. Again, all these thoughts are completely normal. It's our survival brain coming up with stories so we don't go out there and take the risk of failure or take or run the risk of rejection. This part of our brain says, Maybe I'm not the right person, so therefore I shouldn't share my vision.
How do we actually sell our vision? So what can we do? How do we go from being the person that nobody knows to being the person that everyone wants to speak to? What I have found is that the answer to this question is in your state and your energy. In your being is where the true magic happens. Sure, we can read about sales or marketing tactics and probably find really useful information.
But the power doesn't come from how do I do it? The power is in who am I being? And that's what I want us to talk about today. That's the deep dive I want to do with all of you. And it's answering that question. How do we get into that state of being attractive, of being powerful? Well, first we need to understand that our energy matters.
In fact, that our energy is what makes the sell a lot of my clients work in sales and have worked in sales for a long time. And when I shared this idea, I started having a conversation about this topic with them. They always nod their head because they know that it's not about having the perfect script.
It's not about the price. It's not about the product. It's about the state of being there, the energy they're managing in the moment they're having a conversation with a potential client. We all know this. We all know that. As humans, we can read other people's energy. I'll tell you a story. Some years ago, I worked for a company that was a small company that had probably 20, 25 employees, and we all worked in one floor next to each other.
One morning I was running late and I opened the door to the office and I felt it. It was tension. There was so much tension in that room. And of course, because I also have a survival brain like all of you, my brain started telling me, Oh my God, I'm going to get fired. And my heart was racing, like something's wrong.
I'm going to get fired today. So I sat down at my desk and I started opening my computer and doing some work. And then I turned to the woman who next to me and I said, Hey, what's going on? I feel this tension. And she's like, yeah, well, what had happened is that someone had sent an email with very delicate information to the entire team and everyone had seen it.
I hadn't even seen that email, but I knew that tension was there. And I'm sure you've also had that experience, that you walk into a room and you're like, oh, they're talking about me, or, oh, something happened here, or these two people just had a fight. The point with this story is that I want you to remember that we do read other people's energy, not in like a woo woo way, but in a very human, instinctual way.
Okay. So I hope that by now you're believing me that our energy matters. So now let's talk specifically, how do we create the energy that attracts the best people to our vision? And the way I like to think about it, the way I work with my clients on this topic is by focusing on three sets of beliefs. The first is the beliefs you have in yourself, in your capacity, your ability, your capacity to turn that vision into a reality.
If you go to a potential investor, for example. And your conversation in your head is, I don't know, this is my first time. I don't have that proven track record. I hope they help me. I'm just a beginner. You know what? They will feel it. And they will feel your insecurity and your doubt, and it's going to make them doubt and then feel insecure about investing in you and your project.
Some people in the world, when they feel this insecurity, they compensate by wearing a mask. And so they show up like arrogant, talking too much, not listening, being a know it all. And that, that energy is not attractive. It's not attractive when we're on the end of like, Oh my God, what are they going to think about me?
Do I know the words? Do I know what to say? And it's not attractive when we're like, well, I'm the know it all and I'm better than them. I'm going to show them. Those two behaviors are two sides of the same coin that is called my lack of belief in myself. So what do we need to do is believe in ourselves, but in a very true way.
And this is what we do in coaching. The key here. Is that you believe in yourself a hundred percent that you get to a place where you know you are the right person for this vision. You are the only person that will be able to turn this vision into a reality that everyone should trust you because inside of you there is this potential that only you know and you're convinced of it and you're gonna bring it out to the world.
So you listen to this. And you think, yes, that's how I want to believe. But when I look at the facts, the circumstances I'm living right now, they're not true. I'm not the best. I don't have the experience. That's okay. And I'm not asking you to create beliefs that feel fake or that are not true. To find the things that you know are within yourself already, that give you that confidence, that allow you to trust yourself, that in fact, yes, you are the right person for this vision.
I'll give you some examples. One is you are the person who has the idea. Even if other people have similar ideas, there's no one in the world like you. You are unique. So this vision is unique. So you are the right person to bring this vision into reality. Another beautiful thought is, I am going to make it happen because I'm never giving up.
I'm never giving up, so I'm going to be successful. Another thought you can use is, inside of me, I know I was meant To be doing this. I know this is my destiny. Oprah tells this beautiful story about when she was first starting, when nobody knew Oprah, like we know Oprah today, but she knew that she was born to do big things.
And even when people were saying it, are you crazy? That's not for you. You're not capable. She would go back to that feeling inside and say, yes, the world still doesn't know who I am, but I am going to show them because inside of me, I feel that potential. Another belief is I can figure it out. I don't need to know every step of the way, but what I know is I'm resourceful, creative, capable of finding the way to get to the vision I want, to get to the success I'm looking for.
And another thing you can do is simply go back in your life and find evidence of the times you've done things for the first time and you've gotten to the other side. Create that trust with yourself, build this beautiful, trusting and loving relationship with yourself. And it will show when you trust yourself, people will want to trust you.
And you don't even have to walk into a room and say, I believe so much in myself. You don't have to do that. You need to step into a room with what I call quiet confidence. And it's that confidence where We exude because we've done so much work within ourselves. We've looked inside and we found our strength, our creativity, our power.
And this is what I love doing with my clients in coaching is removing all those stories that are just stories and getting to the core of who they are because there are visionaries and they need to believe in themselves and they do, which is amazing. Second set of beliefs is believing in your vision, in your project, in what you're doing.
You have to fall in love with what you're doing. You have to dream with it. You have to spend time thinking about it when it's realized, that you can smell it, that you can touch it, that it's so real for you, that when you walk into a room, There is no doubt that vision is going to happen. And how do we do this?
Again, beliefs are thoughts that we practice over and over again. So if we decide every day to spend time thinking, imagining, connecting to that vision when it's realized in the future, it starts living in our head. If you go back to some episodes before, I talked about how the first act of creation is to imagine.
So you need to realize this vision in your head first and know with absolute certainty that it's going to happen. It's not happening today. It will take time, but it's happening and you love it and you're passionate about it because again, that will be contagious. And the third set of beliefs is the belief in others.
And this is It's a belief, but for me, it's also about love. What do you believe about your investors? What do you believe about your clients? What do you believe about your employees? If you go out to get money for your project and you meet people who could be potential investors. And you start seeing them as adversaries.
If you start feeling like, Oh my God, they're going to take advantage of me. I need to protect. They will feel that emotion. They will sense it. They will probably either invest in you, but feeling that tension from the beginning of the relationship or walk away. And the truth is if you find investors who are not aligning with your vision, they shouldn't be your investors.
We want to bring people who are in love with this vision. Same thing. If you're hiring employees and you're thinking either. They're so good. I'm so scared. They're going to want to walk away from this project right now. They have so many other opportunities. You're going to be walking on eggshells with them and they will sense that lack of trust or self doubt or you're thinking like, ah, couldn't hire the best.
So I'm having to work with this people and you're always criticizing them in your head and you're always, um, thinking negatively about them. That is also going to show, and even with your customers, your customers, the people who are gonna buy your products, watch your movies, uh, be your fans in any sport, you have to love them so much.
You have to not only believe that they're incredible, that they have needs and wants that you're gonna satisfy, but you need to believe that you love them, that you care about them. I think in this world, we've lost that. We've made everything so transactional numbers, how much we sell here, how much we sell there, but love is still the most powerful energy in the world.
And that love shows that love shows because clients will be wanting to come back to you over and over again. They're going to want to refer you to their friends and their colleagues. When you think about the experience of others, when you believe that they need to be part of this project, because you have something that is going to impact their lives positively, that they are going to get the best result, extraordinary stories from working with you, trust me, will want to be part of your story.
The third set of beliefs are the beliefs you have about your clients, potential investors, employees. Let's start with your investors. A lot of the times we need investors because our ideas and our projects require a lot of money. And I've noticed that the relationship between the visionary and the investor can be sometimes very tense.
First, it's a very practical thing is because we need to find investors who are aligned with our own values and who actually buy into our vision. But another part is our beliefs and our thoughts about those investors. As the people who are going to allow us to realize our vision, not our adversaries. So anytime you're going to go raise money for a project, spend time cleaning your thoughts, getting into really positive thoughts about your relationship with those investors, and you will have more success.
Now let's talk about your employees. You start and you're a one person show and you're wanting other people to leave their jobs and come join you to take the risk of their livelihood. How do we get the best to join us? When we're just starting and I think it's spending time thinking about their careers, their dreams, their visions, and how joining you in your own journey towards the goals you have, it is going to be so positively impactful in their lives.
And what is going to be your commitment to them? To grow. And part of it is being honest and truthful about the risks they're taking. But another part is again, selling your vision and making it so compelling that they want to join. And finally, let's talk about the beliefs about your clients. You have to fall in love with your clients, with your audience, with your fans, because all the work you're doing, you're doing for them.
Yes, it's your idea. It's something that makes you passionate, but we're not alone in this world. We're creating things because we are. co creating with others and they are going to be part of your co creation. So you want to love them, you want to think about their needs, their desires, how this thing that you are creating is going to impact their lives.
What is the experience they're going to have when your vision comes to serve some part of their lives? Are they going to laugh? Are they going to cry? Are they going to be touched? Are they going to be so excited because you solved a problem? They've been waiting for someone to help them with. The more you love your clients, the more you treat them as real human beings.
The more they're going to come back to you over and over. I see that in today's world, we've become so transactional. What is the number? How many sales? How many likes? But we forget that behind each dollar invested in our business, there is a human being who also has needs and desires and fears. And I believe that the more you love them, the more you serve them, and they are going to want to tell their friends and their colleagues.
And this is what's going to give you success in the long term. And hey, we're humans. So it's normal that we fluctuate between the self doubt and fear. And this confidence that we're gonna create, the important thing is trying to spend more time in the place where you're feeling confident, where you're feeling good and passionate about what you're doing and less time in the doubtful place.
And this is what we do in coaching. When people say, Oh my God, I loved my coaching session today. This was life changing. What was life changing? Is that we moved from the state of doubt to the state of inner confidence of quiet confidence. And what happens is when you walk out into the world by doing this internal work, by looking at yourself and finding those beliefs into yourself, people will want to join you.
You don't have to be number one. You don't have to be the most experienced or best connected. You don't have to have all the money you need. What you need to do is find the state. Within yourself of the visionary, you know, you were meant to be,
